Today's building is a work of the Horovice family. In 1535, it was built by Aron Mešullam Horovice between his house U Erbů and the site of the Old Jewish Cemetery. In the post-war years the synagogue became a Memorial of Czech and Moravian Jews who became victims of Nazi persecution. In 1992-1996, 80,000 names of Czech and Moravian Jews who perished under Nazism were manually rewritten on the walls of the synagogue.
