| New Year's Eve in Prague New Year's Eve in Prague » 31 December 2010: New Year's Eve in Prague is party night. The river boats, restaurants, bars and clubs are full of people, and the atmosphere gently builds. As midnight approaches, revelers gather at the Old Town Square and by the river to watch the fireworks over the city. Prague Fireworks Some people choose a restaurant with an all-inclusive night of fine food, drinks and dancing. Others prefer a romantic, candlelit dinner 'à deux'. Some bar crawl and chance on finding a club after the fireworks. Others buy tickets for a party in a club or music bar. Finally, there is the ever popular Party Boat and Jazz Cruise. Our Prague New Year's Eve Planner is the city's main guide to the festivities. The planner features all the best entertainment in the city centre. It is published exclusively on PragueExperience.com every Autumn (Fall): New Year's Eve Planner. New Year's Eve Fireworks As midnight approaches, crowds gather around the city to watch one of several firework displays. The restaurants and river boats time their entertainment programme to coincide with this, some even supplying bottles of Champagne for diners to take with them. New Years Eve in Prague Prague Fireworks Broadly, there are two options for where to go to enjoy the midnight fireworks. The first is to be anywhere on or overlooking the river. This means somewhere near to Charles Bridge, Prague Castle or on Petrin Hill. As well as on the streets, people gather on the terraces at the river restaurants and on the top decks of the river boats, which congregate around Charles Bridge. The atmosphere by the river is fun and relaxed, as people take in the beauty of fireworks over the water, with a backdrop of Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and the Old Town. The second option for the midnight fireworks is to head for the Old Town Square. As the atmosphere builds, large crowds gather in the square. Then at the stroke of midnight, it can get quite hair-raising! Czechs LOVE setting off fireworks, and although there is an aerial display, many fireworks at the Old Town Square are handheld and fired off by the crowd. On the whole it is safe, but only just! |
